An Electrophysiology Consultation is an evaluation of the electrical activity in your heart using cardiac catheters and computers to create electrocardiogram (EKG) tracings and electrical measurements from inside your heart.

Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) is a slow and progressive circulation disorder caused by narrowing, blockage, or spasms in a blood vessel.

DIAGNOSTIC TESTING

During the consultation we may use a variety of diagnostic testing equipment. Call us at (910) 484-4100 to schedule a consultation or if you want to learn more about the diagnostics we do. Below you will find a brief description on some of the diagnostic tools we use:
  • ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (EKG)
An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart.
  • ECHOCARDIOGRAM
A test of the action of the heart using ultrasound waves to create a visual display.
  • EXERCISE STRESS ECHOCARDIOGRAM
A procedure that determines how well your heart and blood vessels are working and to measure the effect exercise has on your heart.
  • DOBUTAMINE STRESS ECHOCARDIOGRAM
Used if you are unable to exercise. The Doubutamine medication stimulates the heart to mimic the act of exercising.
  • TRANSESOPHAGEAL ECHO (TEE)
Is another way to perform an echocardiogram. A specialized probe containing an ultrasound transducer at its tip is passed into the patient's esophagus.
  • HOLTER MONITORING
A Holter monitor is a battery-operated portable device that measures and tape records your heart's activity (ECG) continuously for 24 to 48 hours or longer depending on the type of monitoring used.
  • EVENT MONITORING (30 DAYS)
A monitor similar to the Holter monitor but smaller, and is worn for an extended period of time, typically for the 30 days at a time.
  • TILT TABLE TESTING
A test is designed to detect one of the most common causes of fainting or lightheadedness, an issue known as postural hypotension.
  • REGULAR TREADMILL STRESS TEST (ETT)
Another stress test that is used to measure the effect of exercise on your heart.
  • EXERCISE NUCLEAR STRESS TEST
A diagnostic test used to evaluate blood flow to the heart.
  • PHARMACOLOGICAL NUCLEAR STRESS TEST (LEXISCAN)
A test designed to evaluate the condition of your coronary arteries.
  • ABI WITH SEGMENTAL PRESSURES
The Ankle-Brachial Index is a test used to determine segmental limb pressures.
  • CAROTID ULTRASOUND
A painless and harmless test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create pictures of the insides of your carotid arteries.
  • LOWER EXTREMITY ARTERIAL DUPLEX
an ultrasound evaluation of the blood flow to the arteries in the legs and is used to detect and measure the amount of narrowing of the arteries.
  • LOWER EXTREMITY VENOUS DUPLEX
Similar to the Lower Extremity Arterial Duplex but instead will view the veins in your lower extremities.
  • ABDOMINAL AORTA DUPLEX
An ultrasound test that uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to evaluate the aorta, the main artery in the abdomen, and other arteries.
  • PACEMAKER/ICD CLINIC
We preform device and equipment checks for pacemakers.
  • PERIPHERAL ANGIOGRAM
A test that uses X-rays and dye to help your doctor find narrowed or blocked areas in one or more of the arteries that supply blood to your legs.
